Funk Engine Launch at 505

FRIDAY 6 OCTOBER
505 / 280 CLEVELAND STREET, SYDNEY
Sydney jazz-funk veterans Funk Engine are launching their second album “Taking a Ride” at Venue 505. Since their formation in 2013 they have aimed to fuse the virtuosity of jazz with the tight grooves of funk. This band doesn’t just play music that you can kind of bob your head to, they push their chosen genre to the very limit with blistering solos from Felix Lalanne (guitar) and Nish Manjunath (sax) and pumping rhythm from Holly Conner (drums), Nick Twiney (keys) and Siebe Pogson (bass). Taking a Ride also features an expanded horn section on some tracks (Nick Polovineo, Nick Calligeros) to really turn up the heat of the funk and the stylings of rapper, DOBBY and vocalist Deiniol Chynoweth, who will perform the title track live with the band for the very first time.

Funk Engine will be joined by partners in funk Pezcobar, an eight-piece group of funka-holics planning to lay down the groove early on followed by DOBBY doing a solo set providing a hip-hop twist to this funky evening before finishing up with DJ Meem (back to funk), host of the 2ser Back to Funk program, the longest running funk program in Australia. He’ll be playing those old school disco funk beats to wind up the night. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear the entirety of Taking a Ride live with nearly all the musicians who played on the original recording as well as three other truly incredible artists dedicated to the music that makes you move. Do not miss out!
